  • ost of the people in society enjoy watching crime movies and criminal TV programmes. Why do you think people have more interest to watch them ? What is the impact of society due to this?

It has been asserted that a major number of the communities appreciate the Television shows based on the criminal activities. In this essay, I will discuss a reason for interest in such TV shows and its’ positive and negative influences on the society.

To commence, it is the thrill and suspense that render the public to watch the crime-based movies and the Television programmes. One cannot predicts what the outcome is going to be. To illustrate, a Bollywood movie, XYZ, is based on a girl, murdered by an unknown culprit, who is the daughter of a famous Doctor. After an hour of a thrilling investigation by a police officer in the movie, her mother is found to be a killer as she was not her biological mother, but adopted child as the Doctor was infertile.

Moving forward, the television programmes are arranged in a way to give a positive lesson to its’ audience. For instance, a culprit is identified and put behind the bars in most of the programmes. Therefore, the audience feels the fear to commit any type of crime. In addition, the crime-based shows are a good source of entertainment and can prove a good source of releasing the stress of the day.

On the other hand, such type of TV shows is not without the negative impacts on a society. For example, the teenagers often inspired from the techniques about how to plan a crime and try to imitate the scene. The result is obviously not good, but some commit because they considered real life as a scene of the movie. So, these shows may be considered a source of increasing crime in a society.

To conclude, I reiterate that the suspense in the crime-based TV shows is the main reason for interest in watching it. While the aforementioned shows can be a source of entertainment, it can influence the society in a negative way which could raise the crime ratio in society.

  • Some people think that the best way to reduce crime is to give longer prison sentences. Others, however, believe there are better alternative ways of reducing crime. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

It has been asserted that long term imprisonment is more helpful to diminish the rate of crime, however, some people oppose this statement and preferred other methods more beneficial. In this essay, I will examine both views and discuss why I consider that root causes of evil must be addressed to reduce the crime rate instead of an extended stay in lockups.

To commence, longer prison sentences are an excellent way to decrease the crime rate. This is because it prevents criminals to have an opportunity in an open and free environment. Although I blame the negative attitude of the society for the increase number of crimes, the unstable emotions of the patient are equally responsible as well. So, prisoners retention for a longer period in jails could be helpful in addressing the prisoners behaviour by medical professionals and transforming them into useful citizens of the community.

On the other hand, there are some other best methods to cope with law violators in the country. Since the physical and emotional torture in a prison is likely to have a negative influence on the prisoners, it is better to adopt other ways. For instance, poverty and illiteracy are often blamed to be the leading causes of offences, so if these factors were addressed properly through proper individual education and implementing policies on the community level, it would be very easy to eradicate the crimes.

I, however, opine that the state is responsible to work on a grass-root level, to ensure proper education facilities, eradicates poverty and offers psychological counselling to the offenders rather than long term retention in prisons which would reduce the crime rate.

To conclude, I reiterate that sometimes longer stay in jails may be inevitable, but as long as the root cause of crime is not handled properly, the crime would not show any decline.
