Treason is a crime committed by a person against his country or nation. Historically, treason against a king was known as high treason and treason against a lesser superior was petty treason. A person who commits treason is known as a “traitor”. High treason was punishable by hanging, beheading or burning at the stake. These penalties were abolished later. Every state in the world has different punishments for treason now.
