  • The current trend in education is to move away from traditional exams and instead have continuous assessment over the school year. What do you think of this trend? Give reasons and any relevant examples

Education plays pivotal role in development of a society. It is asserted by some, including myself, that pupils should be kept busy throughout the year in term of assessing them rather than yearly or six monthly exams. This trend his developed for many reasons, and, although, I hold quite optimistic opinion {and will be evident from this essay}, that this trend will bring significant improvement in the level of education.

To begin with, by far, one of the primary reason of this trend {that come into my observation is}, school going children used to study only during their exams rather than study from start of the year. Therefore, this attitude waste[s] them a lot of time, resulting in lower grades. Apart from it, continuous assessment throughout the year keep((X(s)X)) children from more hard work during one time exam in the year, instead they study at their normal daily routine and when there is time, they are ready for [the] exams.

Moreover, memorization by repetition or rote learning is a curse that major portion of students do[DOES], to prepare (not prepared) themselves for traditional exams[,] because they have forgotten the things they study early in the year.

Moving forward to {further advance my essay}, I were(was) given a project to findout[02words] depression and anxiety in the school going children before, during and after exams, during my higher studies. Hence, it is no doubt that children having yearly exams suffer more from psychiatric illnesses than those having semester exams. In contrast to traditional exams in Pakistan, one of my friend shifted to US for his International(i) relation studies and now enjoying the fruits of monthly exams.

To conclude, I would like to reiterate that monthly assessments can be more valuable in term of improving quality of education, provided that government should implement policies and monitor the education level.

  • Should college athletes be paid for playing?

Should College athletes be paid for playing?
Some people advocate that Student athletes should be paid for their efforts on the field, while others are of the opinion that it is an extra-curricular activity and students should not be encouraged to play for monetary benefits. We would discuss both the pros and cons of paying college athletes and conclude which opinion carries more weight.
People in favour of paying college athletes argue that athletes sacrifice their bodies and physical health to promote a game they love, and that they suffer from injuries, go through tough training sessions, weight loss programs and much more. All in all, it becomes a full-time job and athletes must be paid for their work. Secondly, Athletes become the source of advertisement for their schools. They bring good name to the school and school administration uses that with good effect. They use the name of the athletes to promote their school and entice potential candidates. So, a part of revenues generated by school must be devoted to students who actually get it done on the field.
People who oppose the idea of paying college athletes argue that these students are favoured over other students in many ways already. They are already given scholarships and books and other basic needs. This puts them above other students who don’t enjoy such benefits. Secondly, people watch these games because of the passion student athletes. By bringing money in sports at this level, we would lose the purity of the game and enthusiasm. Thirdly, this thing would become a business with better athletes going towards schools with better pays. This deviates them from their primary aim of attending school, which is education.
On the basis of these arguments, I would say that college athletes must not be paid. Sports is an extra-curricular activity and if students are paid at this level, it would change their motives as students. They are going school to learn and that too at a reduced cost in the form of scholarships, which is enough at this level.

  • Admission in School as per pupils interests

Education is far more the most important aspect of one’s life. It liberates human mind and enhances one’s knowledge. In modern day education systems students are sent to an organized institution for fulfilling their education needs. Most of the schools give admission to new students based on their previous academic records or an entrance exam.
The question in hand, is whether a pupil should be allowed to attend a school if he has common interest which is accordance to a set norm of previous student pool, or students with different interests should be permitted as well. The basic need of a school systems roots down to the social needs of human beings. Schools are there so that students can learn through an organized system and through communication with one another. It provides a platform where students learn from the experiences and behaviors of others. Students of same interests would be more likely to create a pool of homogeneous crowd. This homogeneity would create a stagnant learning environment as it would lack diversity. A core purpose of a school system is to understand the differences among each other and learn social norms. Giving admission to similar interest students would eventually develop and intolerant society which would be skewed toward one or two common preferences. Furthermore, it is observed that the new work place environment is moving toward a diversified task force and team based structure. Training to work with a team having different cultural and social values should be done at grass root level. In a system of unanimous interest, students would lack the skill required in the near future.
Giving admissions to pupils having different interests in not beneficial for a student self being but also the society he is going to be a part one day. It provides a diversified environment where students can learn about different realities and enhance the horizon of the knowledge. It provide students with an exposure to develop their competences to survive in the real world. Dynamic and multi-talented people are the one who would be successful in this intensely competitive environment. Moreover, this world needs humans who would propagate a message of peace and peace can be originated through respecting the differences among one another.
Allowing heterogeneous interest base students would develop a tendency among these pupils to understand the variety of interests and honor the individuality of one another. Whereas, giving admission to homogeneous interest base students would create a discriminated society.

  • People attend college or university for many defferent reasons (for example, new experiences, career preparation, increased knowledge). Why do you think people attend college or university?

There is a wise proverb that attain knowledge from cradle to grave, relation between human and knowledge is very ancient different people with their divergent needs keen to achieve university college degree, as far as I concerned I totally agrees that gaining different experience, making new carrier and increasing knowledge are most significant reasons behind joining university/college.

Many on-job persons may get tired form their everyday routine work related activities and want to get something divergent, this could be a reason to join university to meet new people or study something different than their profession, teenagers and young peoples are very obsessive about their carrier as part of life-cycle they get their basic education in early life than their parents and society except them to choose a proper carrier and this could be a precursor for young people to get to college university to make their carrier in particular field.

One of the most significant reason which brought people to colleges is to gain knowledge many professionals who already in their carrier want promotion or want to fortify their skills in their respective field brings them to university, no offense a university degree catalyze many new opportunities and opens avenues of success that they wouldn’t have otherwise had, on the other hand many professional consider to change their carrier because of un-satisfaction or primarily interested to setup their own business, university education facilitate them adequate amount of exposure to get on track.

By summing up getting higher education is highly correlated with person’s own needs and wants regardless of race, age and nationality, universities and colleges
