  • In some countries, owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people. Why might this be the case? Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?

In various countries, it is felt important that people own a house rather than use a rented one. I believe this is important due to rising cost of rented house and cost savings as a result of shifting house frequently.
Although using a rented house provides convenience of staying in the area according to varying preference, the rising prices of the rented house is the major pitfall. Renting out a house is a famous business these days and people who do not own a house have to bear the large cost associated with it. To illustrate this, landlords charge high amount of rent and also demand advance rent of several months as a security at the time of house agreement. Moreover, house rent is compounded annually as long as the tenants are staying. Hence, staying in a rented house is costly due to increased financial burden.
Similarly, owning a house is a positive situation, as it also saves a lot of money in shifting house again and again. Living in a rented house means that a need to change house may arise anytime, according to the will of the landlord. Also, shifting a house is not a piece of cake as it requires packing of all household goods and arranging appropraite transportation to shift goods to the new house. Furthermore, various household goods are damaged due to mishandling during shifting. Thus, shifting a house causes extra cost to be borne.
That is why, I believe this is a positive thing to own a house as compared to living in a rented house, other than its high cost.

  • The chart below shows the result of a survey about people’s coffee and tea buying and drinking habits in Australian cities. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparison where relevant.

The bar chart compares the survey results of coffee and tea buying and drinking habits of the people of five Australian cities.
Even though 64% of people of Melbourne went to cafe to have tea or coffee, there purchase related to fresh or instant coffee was not the greatest. The lowest percentage which is 34% is related to the people of Brisbane and Adelaide who bought fresh coffee in the last 4 weeks.
Going to cafe turned out to be most famous in terms of Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Hobart, while it was not the case in Adelaide, as purchase of instant coffee was a bit higher. Moreover, in all five cities of Australia, purchase of fresh coffee seems to be in lower demand as compared to the purchase of instant coffee or going out to the cafes.
It is also evident from the bar chart that people of Sydney, Melbourne and Hobart preferred to go to cafes in order to have coffee or tea. Whereas, people of Brisbane also prefers to buy instant coffee.

  • University education should be free for all students. To what extent do you agree or disagree.

Even though proponents of higher literacy rate feel that university education must be free for all students, I believe it may have negative repercussions on the quality of education provided. To some extent, I agree that free university education must be available to all. Nonetheless, good quality education perhaps not be free.
In this era, university education is considered an important component of people’s life. This is the reason, it should be provided by the government to all the citizens of a country, rather rich or poor. Such as, free university education must be provided by government in return to the taxes paid by the economy. This will not only reduce the literacy rate of the country, yet will also result in reduction of unemployment rate. As the graduates will highly likely start their own businesses, resulting in creating jobs for the masses. Furthermore, it will also have positve impact on the economic development. Hence, university education must be free for all the students.
On the other hand, free university education for all students may not be of good quality. As it is mostly seen, professors and researchers belonging to public universities are not paid well because they do not charge fee to their students. Whereas, private universities pay their employees well due to the reason they meet their finances by charging fees to their students. Thus, distinguished professors and researchers aim to be part of private universities, so that they could earn more according to their skills. For this reason, free university education can only be provided at cost of reduced quality of education. So, university students must be charged a nominal fee in order to maintain the quality of education that is crucial at that stage of their career.
Though I believe that free university education is good for students, in order to maintain the quality nominal fee may be charged.

  • Successful sportsmen can earn a great deal more than people in other important professions. Some people think this is fully justified while others think it is unfair. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Sportsmen who are successful earn more as compared to the people in other profession. Though in some cases it seems unfair, in others it is quite justified. The reason is intense hardwork of sportsmen, while ignorance in terms of influential teachers demonstrates injustice.
Sportsmen are given more importance only when they are successful, and being successful means overcoming various hurdles that comes in their way. Sportsmen require intense training and high level of commitment because they have bigger responsibility as compared to people in other profession. For example, tennis player Roger Federer is acclaimed as one of the best tennis star in history that is just because of his hardwork and dedication. Due to his credible sportsmanship, he earns respect not only for himself, but also for his country. Thus, due to greater impact of successful sportsmen they earn more money and respect as compared to people in other profession.
Conversely, there are many influential people belonging to different professions who are not able to earn that much respect or money, as successful sportsmen does. Talking about teachers who not only enlightens the mind of their students, though also represent their country at international platforms receive insufficient reward for their efforts. For instance, the income earned by well-known professors is far little as compared to successful sportsmen even if they have wider impact in terms of their teaching and publication. Hence, it seems unfair that sportsmen are given more importance as compared to educationists.
Despite of the fact sportsmen are mostly well-off based on their hardwork, lesser importance given to teachers seem unfair to me. The reason is, successful sportsmen earn a great deal as compared to people in other professions.

  • Some people think that exams are a good way of assessing a student’s level. Other people believe that they put unnecessary pressure on young learners and tell us very little about their actual ability. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

In spite of the fact that assessment of student’s level through exam has been an important topic for debate since quite a long time, unnecessary pressure on young learners and inability to assess actual ability is also a cliche. I believe exams may be effective at some stages of education, but not all. The reason is that, while exams are good measure to evaluate retention rate of students, they may ignore practicality of the subject.
At secondary or higher secondary education level, it is imperative to make sure students retain the knowledge that is provided to them. In order to assess this, exams do play an important part. For example, it is quite common in practice to make accounting students appear in exams to evaluate if they know the method of cash book preparation. Therefore, due to the examination system students have to learn the methods thoroughly so that they could recall the concepts during their exam.
On the other hand, exams ignore the practical aspect of the subject, while just focusing on the theoretical part. In professional or higher studies, it is more important for students to know the practical application of their subject which is implemented in the professional career. For instance, accountant may also be required to handle cash physically through intelligence, rather than by means of formal education tested through exams. Thus, exams perhaps cause students to forgo practical aspect of their subject due to the pressure of learning for the sake of assessments.
Hence, exams do put unnecessary pressure on young learners by ignoring practicality, but at some stage of education it do plays an important role to promote knowledge retention.

  • Aircraft use more fuel than cars and produce more pollution. Some people suggest that nonessential use of aircraft like international travel should be discouraged. Do you agree or disagree?

High level of pollution produced by airplanes since they consume greater quantities of fuel. It is suggested that airplanes should be used for only important tasks. I disagree with this statement, as international tourism generates economic activities, and helps students to get quality education abroad.
Plethora of countries in the world rely substantially on the tourism industry, which has huge impact on their economy. The innumerable travelers visit foreign counties every year for recreational purposes, which ultimately help countries to earn foreign exchanges. Furthermore, economic activity triggered at local level, since travelers spends money for hoteling, shopping and site visits. In this regards, local museum, arts galleries and historical buildings also able to generate enough funds, which are must for their existence. Australia is a famous tourist attraction around the world for its exquisite beaches and breathtaking mountains view. According to Australia’s finance department, $50 million earned in year 2018 from tourism industry, which constitute 20% of country’s GDP.
Secondly, international travel allows students of developing countries to pursue higher in developed world, and it offers more quality education with intensive exposure. What is more, they get to learn diverse culture and values, and observes development of this part of world. When they returns back to their native countries, they could contribute in a better way. Dr. Umer Saif, who did his bachelors and PHD from USA, returned back to country and run a successful project of digitalization in Pakistan which totally transformed the country’s IT system.
In a nutshell, restrictions on foreign travel is not a feasible solution to reduce pollution, as it offers innumerable benefits to the countries.

  • Health and fitness levels of children and teenagers are declining these days. Therefore, physical education and sports should be compulsory for all students in all schools. Do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Nowadays, health and fitness level of children and adolescents is decreasing. It is suggested that that physical education and sports activities should be mandatory in all educational institutes. In my opinion, participation in sports activities control obesity and improve academic performance.

Firstly, playing any type of sports help to stay slim and smart. The kids who do not takes part in such activities get obesity, and they tend to have low level of physical endurance. Basically, every sports includes physical exertion, which regulate blood flow in a body, and assist every organ to function properly. This allows body to cut fats and stay lean. According to health department of US, the obesity level of students in the schools promoting extracurricular activities and physical education is far more less than the others.
Secondly, there exists a strong correlation between sports activities and academics. The sports can improve cognitive health. When body is sound, mind would grow rich. These activities enables participants to improvise in difficult situations. As a result, thinking capacity of a student enriches, and thus help him to bring creativity and solution-oriented approach to studies. The sports board, UK shared result of study that in Michigan, kids were able to secure high CGPA, who played games during studies.
The essay agrees with the statement that physical activities are must to have healthy body and mind, and efforts should be made to promote these activities.

  • You were recently helped by an employee at the airport. Write to the airport to Describe the problem Talk about how you were helped Suggest how to reward the employee

    Mr. Aftab
I am writing this letter to express my gratitude to you, as I was recently helped by your security officer, Mr. Osama, at Karachi airport.
After attending business meeting at Karachi on Dec 19, 2020, I was flying back to Lahore, which is my hometown. Furthermore, while passing through second security scanner at Jinnah Airport, I forgot to pick my bag, and went straight to the sitting area. After half an hour, I realized that I had missed it somewhere, but I was unable to remember, where I had left it exactly. I had clothes of my kid inside bag which I bought from Karachi Dolmen Mall. I had developed emotional attachment with those clothes, since I bought them as a gift for my son. I asked Mr. Sultan, Inspector of Airport Security Forces, to help me. He immediately offered me his assistance, in spite of the fact that he was busy in some task. What is more, after watching CCTV cameras, he found out that my bag is at second security gate.
ASF handed me over my bag, when I was in the plane, and flight was about to take-off. After seeing my bag, I was in the state of jubilance. I was unable to thank Mr. Sultan at that time. Thus, please say my thanks to him. Moreover, I would request you to reward this gentleman in any form in near future. For instance, he may be given some cash prize or a promotion in next appraisal. The officers like him must be of great pride for the department.

  • Some people think that high-end technology can prevent and cut down the crime rate. Do you agree or disagree?

Some people argue that frequency of crimes could be reduced by utilizing state of the art technology. I tend to agree with this statement, as advent of the new security tools and latest forensic methods has helped vitally in controlling crime.

Firstly, CCTV cameras have helped society in an innumerable way. These cameras could be installed at any place for surveillance and vigilance. Furthermore, they can focus and record suspicious activities, even in night darkness. In addition to home security, it has been used multi-purposely in industries, educational institutes, and public places. These cameras are major deterrent to crime. Pakistan’s government has launched a Lahore Safe City Project in 2012. Every corner of Lahore city had been covered under the eyes of cameras. As a result, it has helped police to arrest many culprits, and maintain peace in city. According to survey done by Lahore crime department, the crime rate reduced to 35%, after launch of this project, and this project was an instant hit. This also has generated many economic activities in the city.
Secondly, latest forensic labs with up to date equipment and techniques have helped security agencies to detect crime, and solve old criminal cases instantly in an effective way. This also has discouraged people to take law in their hands as it is very easy to go behind perpetrators. Islamabad police department did a study and reveled that after establishment of forensic lab in Islamabad, efficiency of department in solving cases drastically by 20%. This has increased confidence of businessmen and foreign investors. The foreign investment in Islamabad has been increased significantly because of improved law and order situation
To conclude, the latest technology has played a pivotal role in eradicating crime and it is imperative to keep upgrading this technology with the passage of time.

  • Some people think that a good diet and exercise are not necessary to live a long and healthy life. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

According to some people, to spend a long and healthy life, rich diet and workout is not required. I tend to disagree with this statement as both are of vital importance.
Firstly, food affects our body to a great extent. Body of human needs all the basic nutrients to stay energize. These nutrients are proteins, vitamins, Carbohydrates, and calcium. If we get balance diet, we will stay healthy. What is more, we will have longevity. By eating junk food, and in-taking lots of calories from sugary drinks, our body internal system gets disturbed. As a results, lots of complications happens in our body. Obesity happens from poor diet selection which causes many diseases e.g. blood pressure, diabetes, heart problem etc. For instance, UK government did a survey and revealed that cities where consumption of junk food is low, there is high life expectancy recorded. Thus, food selection is an importance factor in our daily life.
Secondly, physical activities have major importance in maintaining healthy lifestyle. That is why, countries make consistence efforts to promote sports and competitions among citizens. The activities like Jogging, running, gym workout, and swimming, all are undeniably, very important part of life. All doctors advises to exercise atleast 30 minutes daily. For example, The US health department revealed that the health costs of hospitals in Michigan states is low as compared to other states, due to availability of many grounds and parks and focus of people towards exercise.
To conclude that I will say, healthy diet and exercise play an indispensable role to have long and healthy life and everyone should practice it.

  • In many countries children are engaged in some kind of paid work. Some people regard this as completely wrong, while others consider it as valuable work experience, important for learning and taking responsibility. What are your opinions on this?

In these days, it is common to see more or less children engaged in some kind of paid work. I believe, it may have positive as well as negative impact on the children. Positive in a sense, it will give an edge in securing good job in future. While negative, as it may develop greediness of money in children.
Whenever children grow up and move into the professional career, job experience plays an important role. Even if their job required online work, it definitely gives an edge. For example, according to a research by the university, children having some sort of previous work experience landed on a full-time job sooner, as compared to those who had no prior work experience. Therefore, children who are engaged in some kind of paid work not only develops good learning and responsibility among themselves, also increase their chances of getting a good full-time job.
Conversely, children who do some kind of paid job are more likely to develop attraction towards earning money rather completion of education. This is the reason, children may move on to full-time job without completing their formal education. For instance, according to a national survey the most common reason for not completing undergraduate education was to be able to start earning even before the completion of studies. Due to this, most of the parents allow their children to do voluntary work for limited time, so they do not develop an addiction of earning money without completing their education.
Hence, I believe, paid work can have a positive and negative impact on the children, as it helps in securing good job in future but may develop greediness of money in children.

  • The charts below show the levels of participation in education and science in developing and industrialized countries in 1980 and 1990. Write a report for a university lecturer describing the information shown below. You should write at least 150 words.

The bar charts show the level of participation by developing and industrialized countries in education, skill and research for the year 1980 and 1990.
In terms of schooling, industrialized countries remained highest with the average of almost 8 years in 1980 and 10 years in 1990. Although both developing and industrialized countries experienced a growth in average years of schooling, it was greatest in terms of industrialized countries.
The trend for scientists and technicians shows a similar trend, as it increased for both developing and industrialized countries. For developing countries, the increase from 1980 to 1990 was minor, for it still remained fewer than 20 per 1000 people.
Despite the fact that education and skills rose in developing countries from 1980 to 1990, spending on research and development fell. The increase in spending on research and development rose form $150 billion in 1980 to $350 billion dollars in 1990, for industrialized countries.

  • Write a letter to the local school in your neighborhood to give suggestions about improving its buildings and play area. Include

    Dear Mr. Fooke

I am pleased to inform you that I am an alumni of Lahore Grammar School, situated at Johar Town, Lahore. I had completed my primary studies here back in 1990. Nowadays, my son is also studying in the same school, in order to continue our tradition. During my last visit to school, I was shocked to see the current condition of building and play area for students and kindergartens. It needs an early renovation and expansion.

This school has legacy of producing great people and noble laureates. It has developed many scientist, engineers, doctors, and sportsman. In addition to that it served this nation well by inculcating values and diciplines in students. For instance, famous scientist Dr. Qadeer, and Surgeon Dr. Amir Aziz graduated from here. Despite the fact that it is charging high fee from students, it is not giving standard facilities. I am very disappointed to see miserable condition of boys section’s building. This will not only impact institution brand name, but it will fail to attract top talent from country.

The best time for this renovation would be summers break. You will have sufficient time to plan your work and resources well in advanced. I would also ready to assist you to raise donation form alumni association.

Enclosed is cheque worth Rs. 1 million for this cause. I hope you will take necessary action and let me know incase of any help.

    Regards

  • Write a letter to your landlord to ask about repair work that was not completed successfully. Write What the problem was? What things did they repair? What do you expect?

    Dear Rock,

I hope you are doing well. I am very regretful to inform you that the car I borrowed from you, for my brother marriage ceremony, got damaged. It was an accident near my home at Davis road, but I will fix it before giving it to you.

I know it’s your favorite car. Moreover, you have special emotional attachment to it, as your father gifted it to you on your 20th birthday. Despite of the fact that you have only one personal car at home, you gave it to me. For that reason, I am really grateful to you.
Last night, when I was going to collect some sweets from bakery, a car which was coming from wrong way, smashed straight into my car. Consequently, the right side mirror and fender has been damaged badly. However, the cops reached at spot instantly and they declared the driver of that car responsible. What is more, they also fined him and made him pay the cost of damage. I have been busy in marriage, nevertheless I have left car at Honda authorized dealer’s workshop. They have committed to fix it in two days.
Once again, I am really sorry for that, and I will come to your place once it is fixed.

  • Write a letter to a local restaurant that is very noisy. In your letter Introduce yourself Describe the problem Say what actions you will take

    Dear John
I am writing to bring one issue in your notice that currently I am living in a house which is located besides Yum restaurant which you own. The noise coming out of your restaurant after 10 pm is very disturbing for me, and I want you to take immediate action against it. This would allow me to sleep peacefully.
Nowadays, I am working as field Sales officer in a local pharmaceutical firm. What is more, 80% of my working day passes in travelling. Despite of the fact that restaurant is situated in residential area, loud music could be heard even after 10 pm. Normally, I come back home at 9 pm after hectic job, that is supposed to be time when I need calmness to rejuvenate myself. Due to high volume music and noise of customers, I am unable to sleep well. Furthermore, that is creating negative effect on my job performance.
I have requested restaurant manager Mr. Haris many times to but he did not pay attention to it. Therefore I am requesting you to advise him to consider my request. Otherwise I have to make complain in community office. Moreover, I can also speak to local police station to take some legal action as it is clear violation of my basic rights.
I hope you will understand my concern. Looking forward to your positive response

  • Some people think that the government is wasting money by funding the arts and this money could be better spent elsewhere. To what extent do you agree with this view?

It is believed that government are spending more money on promotion of arts which is not justifiable and do not worth much, and they should invest it somewhere else. I tend to disagree with the statement.

Importance of studying arts for both kids and elder people is undeniable. Arts are greatly connected with generating creativity and innovative skills. Furthermore critical thinking skills leads to the development of the world. It has served humankind greatly. The Taj Mahal, Wall of China, and great pyramids of Egypt are true depiction of fabulous artistic skills. These wonder of the world served as basis of great knowledge creation in the field of architecture. UK government did a survey and revealed results that students who studies arts in their school or colleges scored high on creativity.
Nowadays, people are pursuing more careers in arts. They learn how to make paintings and sculptures. What is more, music and drama industry is greatly entertaining us in our gloomy time. These artist and celebrities give us pleasure. Despite of the fact that they pay heavy taxes, they do great social work. The US labor department shared a study that only 10 percent of people associated with arts are unemployed.
Arts helps native to know their culture and history. In addition to that, foreigners find it as very helpful. Rome, Iran, Egypt, Italy and Turkey are countries with rich cultural history. Many foreigners visit these countries regularly. This results in generation of excellent economic activity. The World Bank did study and revealed the countries with history of arts orientation have high gross domestic product.

So in my opinion, government should spend more extravagantly in arts development as it is very beneficial for both people and government.

  • Advances in computer technology allow young adults to work from home and children to study at home. Do you think this is a positive or negative change?

Advancement in the field of information technology has made professionals to work at home, and students taking classes online. This is very positive trend and it is very beneficial for society.

Nowadays, after novel coronavirus epidemic, there has been strict lockdown prevailing in most of the countries. The corporates and education institutions closed for indefinite period. Moreover, many lost their jobs. Here role of I.T emerged strongly. Despite of the fact that cost of providing latest gadgets to employees increased significantly, the organizations kept on working remotely. This resulted in an increased productivity of employees, as well as improvement in work-life balance to greater extent. Atlas Honda has achieved its highest ever sales in this October 2020 as it was working on this concept. Mercer Pakistan did a study and revealed that efficiency of workers who have been provided work from home increased upto 30 percent.

Secondly, the employers also got its fruit. The operational cost of their businesses reduced remarkably. The cost of transportation, meals, electricity and utilities went down substantially. Without availability of latest technology, it would not been possible. Some organizations served their customers satisfactorily, even though the companies were closing at that time due to losses. The google had reduced its operational cost to US$ 50 million in last quarter. The US department of labor published survey results that revealed that tech companies have not fired a single worker during this financial year.

On the other side, there are also some negative points associated with work from home. The distractions at home and isolation of employees affect them socially and psychologically. There is an increased responsibility on soulmates and mothers when husbands and kids are at home. The UK department of justice revealed report that divorce rate increased 2 times during recent lockdown.

In my opinion working at home and getting learning online by use of technology outweighs its drawbacks and it is very positive trend.

  • When a country develops its technology, the traditional skills and ways of life die out. It is pointless to try and keep them alive. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion? You should use your own ideas, knowledge and experience and support your arguments with examples and relevant evidence. You should write at least 250 words.

With the development in technology, the traditional skills and ways of life does die out, which is in terms of typewriters. However, for some goods it does not happen in all areas of the world; specifically talking about the developing countries.
If we talk about typewriters, which are nowadays replaced by the computers. Looking into the past, not everyone was skilled to use the typewriters, for it required a special skill of maintaining the formatting of the content through typing pace. Although, this need of preciseness has been resolved with the invention of computers, which automatically maintains the formatting and is comparatively very easy to use. But, the people who were qualified to use typewriters are now redundant and have become extinct due the technological shift to the computers, and nowadays no one requires a separate typist for the work. This shows that, moving away from traditional skills due to the technology is inevitable.
However, if we talk about electric cars, which has brough revolution in the automobile industry and have created a niche for specialized mechanics, has actually not made the traditional diesel engine car’s mechanic redundant. Although, some people from developed countries might prefer soundless electric cars, many people from developing countries prefer to drive diesel engine cars. This is because, latest electric cars are not available in their area or even it does not match their culture. For instance, people from traditional Punjabi culture prefers to have cars which have loud sound, just to show their influence in their society. So, despite the technological advancement towards electric cars, the usage of diesel engine cars and its mechanic have not decreased to extinction.
In terms of typewriters, indeed it is pointless to try to keep the tradition alive, but for cars it can happen, depending upon the availability of goods.
Thus, with the development in technology, the traditional skills and ways of life does die out in some instances, but not for all.

  • IELTS Speaking Part 2 Sample Answer: Describe a thing you brought that proved to be very useful

One day, I had gone to the market to buy some apples, and I saw a file tray. It was not a very expensive one, but my wife asked me not to buy it as it would not be of any use. Seriously, it was useless for me until I started teaching English. As soon as I started teaching English, I was required to check essays and they used to get misplaced all the time. It was then, when I remembered that I had bought a file tray. After using the file tray, I am able to put all the essays in a proper order. Also, there is very less mess created on my table, which reduces the pressure I am having during my working hours.

  • IELTS Speaking Part 2 Sample Answer: Describe a goal you achieved.

In 2015, I launched a website and the name of the website was www.cafels.com . I gave myself a 5-year goal. The goal was that I would be having 10,000+ visitors on my website. At first, it seemed something not doable, but with the proper strategy I started believing that I would accomplish my journey. Though I had to face a lot of hurdles, it was not as hard as people had made me believe it would be. As far as I remember, my server crashed 4 times because it was not able to handle the number of visitors who were coming on my website. I think it was a Friday when I achieved my goal, and I have been able to have this many people on my website since then.

  • IELTS Speaking Part 2 Sample Answer: Talk about a time when you travelled by public transport

About 2 years ago, I went to Roseville. It was a small town, which was 2-hour drive away from San Francisco. I had gone there to meet my cousin and her family. When I was in Roseville, my cousin told me that we should go to Sacramento. At first, we decided to go in her car, but then we had to change the plans because she said that she did not want to drive. Thus, we booked 8 tickets of Greyhound bus. The bus was a huge one and the seats were very comfortable. Without a doubt, travelling on the bus was the right decision as we were able to enjoy the journey. Also, the ambience of the bus was amazing.

  • IELTS Speaking Part 2 Sample Answer: Describe an article on health that you read online

Last week, I read an article which was related to the Covid-19. The title of the article was “Masks” and the article was on the official website of WHO. The article debunked my beliefs about the disease and the prevention methods of it. It was a very well-written article. Initially, I used to think that there was no way that masks could curtail the spread of Coronavirus. However, the figure mentioned on the article astounded me. It said that those who do not wear masks are 10 times more vulnerable done those who do. Also, the article mentioned that all those countries where the cases were lower were the ones, where people were wearing marks. It also mentioned that New Zealand and China controlled the disease because they made it a legal requirement for their citizens to wear the marks. Moreover, the fine for not wearing a mask was quite hefty. Overall, the article enlightened me and encouraged me to wear the mask.

  • IELTS Speaking Part 2 Sample Answer: Describe a challenge that you met.

It was a year ago when my sister challenged me to reduce 20 kg in 2 months. She challenged me in a very condescending manner, so I had to accept her challenge. Although it was a very ambitious plan according to many people, I decided to try my best to lose 20 kg in 2 months. At first, the journey towards losing weight was very difficult. Most of the time, I used to believe that I should just give up since and forgo the plan. Actually, I used to find food to be quite tempting. After mustering a lot of courage, I gave up eating junk. Then, I started going for a walk in the evening. Though I was doing all these things, my weight was not reducing at all, and a day even came when I doubted the idea of pursuing the goal of reducing weight. However, the results started coming out after 2 weeks, and I recall that there was a day, when I even lost the 11 pounds. Luckily, I ended up meeting the challenge.

  • IELTS Speaking Part 2 Sample Answer: Describe a time when weather broke your plans

Last week, we made a plan to have a picnic in a park. It has been a long time that we had not gone for a picnic in the work. Thus, I asked all my cousins to join for the picnic. We had made a plan to reach there at 1pm and have a great time. All my cousins started gathering at my house and all they actually reached earlier. However, as soon as we sat in the cars, it started raining. We had all checked the weather and it was not something which was being anticipated even by the weather forecasters. We all were so much excited, but weather broke our plans. We felt very sad, and that was the day when we decided to eat the food at our homes. Since then, we have not made any plans for a picnic. I think once the rainy season is over, we would go to the park because I want to get mesmerized by the captivating sights over there.

  • IELTS Speaking Part 2 Sample Answer: Describe an important piece of news received via text message.

Last night, I got a text message from PMA (Pakistan Medical Authority). It was a message which filled me with joy. I received it at 10pm. The message was telling that Pakistan has acquired 3 different types of vaccines for Covid-19, and the authority is now requesting the people to participate in the trial before the vaccine is approved. At first, it seemed as if someone was joking as it seemed impossible that we would ever come out victorious from this situation of coronavirus. However, when I called the same number to confirm the news, it was true. It was a relief for me to find out that finally something positive was coming in our way. I shared the news with all my friends and family members, and surprisingly most of them had already received the news on their phones. It was good to see that the government was directly informing the citizens about the positive news rather than just letting the media corporations do it.

  • IELTS Speaking Part 2 Sample Answer: Talk about an important skill you learned.

I used to be an introvert. I used to avoid talking to people since I was not comfortable in doing it. Initially, it was fine, but as soon as I joined college, it started affecting my grades. Whenever I was required to give a presentation in the college, I used to get a very low score as I used to speak very less on the topics given to me. As a result, I decided to acquire the skill of public speaking. Luckily, the course was being taught in the college. I enrolled for the course. It lasted for 2 months, and I was able to get the confidence to speak in front of people. The course enabled me to work on the basic skill of being comfortable with the audience and engaging them in what I had to say. This skill enabled me to get a good score on my course: Marketing 102. Previously, I had not been getting acceptable scores due to my inability to speak in front of the people.

  • IELTS Speaking Part 2 Sample Answer: Describe an important journey that was delayed.

Last year, I was supposed to go to Sacramento with my family. It was a trip which we had already planned. As soon as we sat in the car, my wife got a phone call from her office. Her colleague said that she was supposed to join an urgent meeting. Though my wife told him about our journey, the colleague kept on insisting. Thus, she had to join a meeting. She told me that the meeting would not last for more than 30 minutes. However, it lasted for 3 hours. My son starting crying and his distress reached to the point that he started having breath-holding spell. It was a really terrible time. Though we went to Sacramento, we did not enjoy the journey as it had been delayed by 4 hours.

  • IELTS Speaking Part 2 Sample Answer: Describe a job that you don’t want to do in future.

For the last 5 years, I have been working as a part-time teacher. Although the job pays well, it is quite cumbersome. I not only have to spend time in the classroom but also spend hours checking the homework assignments which are submitted. Because of this hectic routine, I am not able to give my family the time they deserve. For instance, last year, I was not able to spend more than 1 hour in a day with my family members and it disturbed us all. Moreover, teaching is not a job through which one would be able to accumulate wealth. I plan on becoming an entrepreneur. Being a teacher has taught be to be disciplined. I think this skill will help me a lot in my business venture.

Nowadays, it is a common perception, to be successful in business, one should produce unique or distintive product. Since its not possible for majority, I totally disagree with this stance. Core factors effecting success are marketing strategy for its advertisement, and promotion, attractive product packaging, and above all after sales services.

    2. Both views:
Many people are happy that historical buildings are protected from being knocked down; whereas, other people would like to see them replaced by more usefil buildings such as houses and recreation facilities. Discuss both views.

People have different views either to keep or dimolish old buildings. Normally, its the responsibility of the state to ensure the safety of heritage by preserving historical infrastructure as it mirrors our ancestry, and culture as well as it preserves cultural identity. It attracts tourists from all world. Although, population growth is on rapid increase, some people think, new residential and liesure spots should be created by replacing them.

Private care owners should be taxed highly and money invested in public transport in order to reduce congestion. What are the advantages and disadvantages of such a solution.
Each government has prime focus to improve transportation facilities and adopts different strategies to have minimum traffic. Likewise, by imposing heavy cess on vehicle purchase. Although it would increase govt revenue which can be invested for pulic transports, widing roads, and traffic laws enforcement, it would have adverse effect on buying power of middle/lower class person. Also, a drastic drop of sales in automobile industry which would result in unemployment of thousand of people.

    Agree or Disagree
Some people are of the opinion that the key to success in business is to possess a unique product to sell. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
I agree with the opinion that key to success in business is to possess a unique product to sell. The reason is the business is able to skim profits before competitor due to the first mover advantage and also able to control prices because of having monopoly due to the uniqueness of product.

    Both views
Many people are happy that historic buildings are protected by laws to prevent them from being knocked down; whereas, other people would like to see them replaced by more useful buildings such as houses and recreation facilities. Discuss both sides.
I believe protection of historic buildings by law is important because some buildings are related to an important historic event or symbolizes an ancient culture. Nevertheless, with the growth of population and a need to fulfil housing requirements of people many old buildings need to be renovated into apartments.

    Advantages and Disadvantages
Private car owners should be taxed highly and the money invested in public transport in order to reduce congestion. What are the advantages and disadvantages of such a solution?
Charging higher taxes to private car owners and investing in public transportation will definitely reduce traffic congestion by shifting more people to public transport and is likely to reduce pollution related to private cars also. Nonetheless, it may also deteriorate public transport due to increased demand causing more people to shift to private cars despite higher taxes.

    Hybrid

    Problem-Causes-Solution
Obesity in children is greatly increasing and this could lead health problems for them later in life, as well as health care costs. Why do you think so many children are obese and what could be done to solve this problem
Obesity in children is increasing which will not only increase health issues later in life but will also increase health care cost. The reason is eating habits as junk food is preferred in terms of healthy food and the reduction in physical sports due to invention of mobile, tablets and video games. This could be improved with the help of parents who should not allow their children to eat junk food and educational institutes making the requirement of physical sports mandatory for the children in each grade.

  • Your landlord wishes to increase your rent. Write a letter to him stating Why the rent should not be increased Current issues in the apartment What you will do if he does

    Dear Andy,
I just came to know about your plan to revise rent and decided to write about my opinion. You should not increase the fare. As per rent agreement, the fare would remain same for an year. Additionally, some maintenace work is required your attention too. If you still wish, there would be no option left other than shifting.
I’m living in this apartment from last month. As per the rental deed, the rate would be revised upon completion of one year at the rate of 10% afterwards only. An increase before that would be totally unfair.
Furthermore, it was committed by your side that you would complete the maintenance required on priority. Floor tiles and badly damaged in kitchen and window glass was already broken. Moreover, cieling fan is also out of order.
I hope, you would fulfill your commitment by taking necessary action and would not rise rent. However you consider your stance, I wouldn’t have other option than quiting.
Please let me know of your plan,
    Kind regards,

  • The position of women in society has changed markedly in the last twenty years. Many of the problems young people now experience, such as juvenile delinquency, arise from the fact that many married women now work and are not at home to care for their children. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?

The position of women has indeed changed since last twenty years as both of the parents being employed is quite common nowadays, which was unusual in the past. I agree that juvenile delinquency, depression and some other children related issues are growing due to the fact that parents are not able to give time to their children, but sometimes it is result of other reasons such as disagreements between parents.
When parents, specially mothers are not able to give time to their children, the sense of inferiority complex, depression and similar problem start to arise in them. Being deprived of the company especially of mothers, most of the time of children is then spent with friends who could easily manipulate the behavior and habits of children towards unethical conduct. For instance, according to a survey by Lahore University, drug usage in high school students was more common in adults who spent lesser time with their mothers because of being employed. Thus, mothers not being able to give time to their children causes them to indulge in untoward activities.
However, disagreement between parents including physical violence in front of kids is also an important factor which cause long term detrimental effects on the behavior of children. Having seen violence during childhood, most of the children repeat such actions with others, leading to juvenile delinquencies and other problems. For instance, according to a report by community college in US, male adults who witnesses physical violence during their childhood repeated the same with their girlfriends and ended up being convicted for physical violence ten. Hence, despite cared by their mothers such incidents happen.
So, juvenile delinquency and other problems which young people experience is not always the result of mothers being unable to care for children but can also be due to domestic violence incidents among parents.

  • IELTS Speaking Part 2 Sample Answer: Describe a situation when you helped someone.

About 2 weeks ago, I got a call from my friend, and he told me that he was really struggling in the verbal section of GRE, and he wanted me to help in memorizing the high-frequency words. At first, I was a bit reluctant since I was busy with my own assignments. Nevertheless, I decided to help him. He came to my house and we devised a 10-day plan to learn 1000 words. The plan was very ambitious, but we decided that it was the only way to learn those words. I remember that I used to give him quizzes and flashcards so that he could remember them. Furthermore, I gave him some articles in which those difficult words were being used. The good thing about this activity was that my friend was able to understand the words in context. Though my friend did not ace the verbal part of the exam, he got an acceptable score and he was quite satisfied with his performance and he thanked me a lot for all my efforts.

  • IELTS Speaking Part 2 Sample Answer: Describe your idea of a perfect/dream home.

My dream for a perfect home would be a home that is in a far-fetched area. I want to live in a place that is very far from downtown since I am someone who is seeking peace. If I construct my house away from downtown, I would be able to buy a larger area. As far as the area is concerned, I want my house to be of at least 5 acres. I want the covered area of my house to be not more than 20,000 square feet, and apart from the conventional facilities, I would want a swimming pool and a cycling track. In spite of the fact that people with larger homes are very much interested in gardens, I am not very much eager to develop my gardens and do landscaping. As a matter of fact, I want my gardens to have no landscaping at all.

  • IELTS Speaking Part 2 Sample Answer: Describe a change that could improve your local area.

At present, my area is having a lot of commercial buildings. Though the area is a residential area, there are many people who have illegally converted their homes into commercial offices. Due to the this unchecked commercialization, it is very hard to find parking spaces in the area, and most residents have to experience traffic problems Since it would be very hard to convert these commercial buildings into residential ones, the only pragmatic solution is to make a parking plaza. This parking plaza would meet the ever-increasing demand of the people in the area. When people would have parking spaces, the problem of traffic congestion would also be solved. I was told that the Lahore City Council has proposed a plan to construct the parking plaza, and it would be constructed in the very near future.

  • IELTS Speaking Part 2 Sample Answer: Talk about a family member that you spend a lot of time with.

Although I used to have a busy life earlier, I have enough time these days as I have been working from home due to the work-from-home policy given by the government. On average, I spend about 4 to 5 hours with my son in a day. He gets done with online classes by 1:30 pm, and after that, I take him for a drive. After the drive, we watch a lot of educational videos in our room. Also, we discuss everything he learned in class. I feel blessed as I am finding time to spend with him. Similarly, he loves every moment which is spent with me. As a matter of fact, I think he has become a bit more talkative, and his bond with me has been strengthening with every passing day.

  • IELTS Speaking Part 2 Sample Answer: Describe a time when you went to a crowded place.

In 2015, there was a cricket match held in my city. My family and I decided to watch the match in the stadium because Pakistan was playing. The match was between Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Since the match was being held in Lahore after 10 years, the stadium was inundated with spectators. I really believe that they had sold more tickets than the seats which were in the stadium. The experience was not a very good one. It was more like a stampede. People just kept pouring into the stadium, and it reached a point when the entire area was jammed. Thus, we left the place and decided never to watch a match in the match ever again.
